Tìr Ìseal Writing

Students from Tiree Primary and Tiree High School are creating original written work inspired by the Tìr Ìseal project stories

Welcome to our young Tiree writers!

We’re publishing a book of writing inspired by the Tir Iseal project stories.

This page is for you to send us your pieces of writing (in Gaelic or English).

You can use any of the stories from the project as inspiration for your writing. You can read the stories by clicking on the Stories link above.

The stories we’re using in the production are:

  • The Tiree Mermaid

  • The Piper of Kenavara

  • Donald The Pilot

  • Big Jura John and the Irish Earl

  • Kelp and Potatoes (we’re telling the story of one family’s experience of loss and hardship as a result of the potato blight and the collapse of the kelp industry)

  • Emigration to Canada

  • The lost village of Hough

  • The characters of James Turnbull, John Dewar and a fictional character called McKinnon, who is a local guide

You can create any type of writing in response to the stories.

  • Fiction or non-fiction

  • Short or long

  • Whole stories or fragments of story

  • Poetry

  • Conversations

  • Descriptions

  • Funny or serious
